Get To Know Our New Nonprofit Partners

Say hello to the 9 new SA2020 Nonprofit Partners! These organizations are all working toward our shared community vision—across 9 of our Cause Areas. They join 126 existing SA2020 Nonprofit Partners for a total of 135 nonprofit organizations aligning their efforts toward the SA2020 Vision. This partnership will offer each of them opportunities to strengthen and better communicate their impact. It also allows us the opportunity to coordinate and align their efforts, fostering collaboration and strengthening San Antonio’s continuum of services. We’re thrilled to have these organizations on board, and we invite you to learn a little more about their programs and how they’re moving the needle on our shared goals:

Anuja SA, Inc.

Drawing 15,000-20,000 people downtown to celebrate Diwali every year, Anuja SA hosts the Festival of Lights in partnership with the City of San Antonio to raise awareness of Indian culture. Anjua SA also fosters the Sister-City relationship with Chennai through cultural exchanges and trade delegations for students and professionals in the areas of arts and culture, medicine, education, business and commerce, and sports and recreation. In this way, Anjua SA supports learning and economic opportunities for both cities.

Intercultural Development Research Association

The Intercultural Development Research Association (IDRA) works with families, communities, K-12 educators, and higher education institutions to ensure the public education system is preparing all students to succeed in college.

IDRA strengthens schools by providing on-site training and technical assistance to thousands of teachers across the country in more than 1,600 school districts. IDRA also engages families to work with school leaders in monitoring the academic success of their children and those in their neighborhood. As a national resource, IDRA sets standards in research design, analysis and reporting to inform public and professional decision makers on the broad array of policy issues that impact education.

Latched Support

Latched Support helps families offer their babies the healthiest start in life through breastfeeding. Latched Support offers free breastfeeding support from pregnancy and beyond by International Board Certified Lactation Consultants and registered nurses, in addition to parenting classes and diaper supplies for parents.

Latched Support works most closely with African American and Latino communities, which reflect a low percentage of breastfeeding mothers. With an understanding of cultural competency, the organization specifically pairs consultants and nurses of color with mothers of color, which has illustrated a higher rate of success in breastfeeding. Breastfeeding leads to better health outcomes for both babies and mothers, with the potential to reduce systemic health disparities in communities of color.

Lupus Foundation of America – Lone Star Chapter

Through research, education, support, and advocacy, the Lupus Foundation of America (LFA) improves the quality of life for all people affected by lupus. LFA is the only organization in the country dedicated to finding a cure for lupus.

The LFA Lone Star Chapter informs local health professionals and families affected by lupus on best practices in the diagnosis and management of the disease. Through greater awareness, early diagnoses, and access to safe and effective treatments, people living with lupus are able to lead full lives.

Musical Bridges Around the World

Musical Bridges Around the World (MBAW) brings people together through the arts, welcoming world class musicians to perform for the community-at-large, and leading educational outreach programs for K-12 students and seniors. MBAW’s free programming increases access to the arts, reaching 80,000 people every year, promotes cross-cultural understanding, and fosters creativity.

Project Transformation Rio Texas

Project Transformation Rio Texas works with young adults and children to ignite a lifelong love for service, leadership, and learning rooted in Christian ministry. College interns lead a literacy program in neighborhood churches, tutoring and mentoring elementary students. The program emphasizes relationship-building in a safe environment, building the reading levels and self-esteem of the children, while growing the leadership of the young adults. Through this program, Project Transformation Rio Texas works to re-anchor churches as spaces to strengthen neighborhoods and communities.

Ride Connect Texas

The mission of Ride Connect Texas is to promote independence, preserve dignity, and enhance the quality of life of older adults and people with disabilities by coordinating and providing transportation services. The organization prioritizes medical and health-related travel needs, providing seniors and people with disabilities throughout Bexar County with free curb-to-curb, door-to-door, or door-through-door ride assistance. By helping people make it to their doctor’s office or senior center safely, Ride Connect Texas is increasing access to transportation as a means to access opportunity.

Social and Health Research Center

Social and Health Research Center (SAHRC) supports children, adults, and families in making healthy choices to control chronic disease such as obesity, hypertension, and type 2 diabetes through innovative and evidence-based education programs and health screenings. Children and adults that are able to lead healthy lifestyles are better prepared to thrive in school and at work, while avoiding potentially burdensome medical costs.

SAHRC’s BieneStar curriculum is used in community centers, schools, wellness worksites, and in physician practices. These bilingual sessions teach participants skills and behaviors related to physical activity and nutrition, including: the relationship between health behaviors and chronic disease; health consequences of obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cardiovascular disease; and goal-setting and self-monitoring.

The Immunization Partnership

The Immunization Partnership (TIP) supports families, physicians, and policymakers in making smart choices about protecting our community from vaccine-preventable diseases. By proactively preventing life-threatening diseases, Texans avoid burdening medical costs, and are better able to thrive in work and school. In San Antonio, TIP leads trainings to the general public and to health care providers on the latest in vaccine-related science and policy, trains local advocates on evidence-based legislation, and, in collaboration with the San Antonio Metro Health District, builds the capacity of a community-based immunization coalition. TIP also serves communities across Texas through advocacy at the state-level.
