Access to parks and green spaces within San Antonio has steadily increased over the last decade. In 2023, just over half — 51% — of San Antonio's population has measurable access, meaning they're within a 10-minute walk of a park. This is a near 20-percentage point increase from 2011. SA2020's City Council Profiles show number of parks by Council District.
The City of San Antonio's Parks System Plan was adopted in 2019 and will guide future planning decisions about expansion, capital improvements and programming of the more than 250 City-owned parks and recreational facilities, 16,000 plus acres of green space, and over 200 miles of trails through 2029.

San Antonio
Trust for Public Land developed the ParkScore® index to assess how well cities are meeting the need for parks. Cities can earn a maximum ParkScore® rating of 100.
After 12 years of driving progress toward a shared community vision, SA2020, the nonprofit organization, is dissolving. We believe this is the most visionary thing we can do. We made this decision with the greatest care for our organizational values of leadership, community, and accountability, and we hope you’ll read more about it on our blog.
Our website is live with our final data release, showing where San Antonio stands on reaching the shared community vision. The data release is accompanied by our final call to action—a policy agenda for City government based on our unique bird’s-eye view of San Antonio.
While SA2020’s operations ended March 28, these resources, along with the last twelve years of our research and stories, will be available to download from our website through September 2024.
