As we wrap up 2022, we’re reflecting on another year of championing San Antonio’s shared community vision. This year, Team SA2020 worked in partnership with local and statewide organizations, informed voters about (the many!) elections, produced new research, trained San Antonians in nonprofit board service, made time to rest and recharge, and much more. Read more about five of our favorite highlights from 2022.
We hosted The Board Game, our leadership development training and matching program for nonprofit board service.
Each year, our Nonprofit Partners collectively report hundreds of open seats on their Boards of Directors. At the same time, we know San Antonians across the city are eager to grow their leadership and use their skills to serve the community. Through The Board Game, we help connect those San Antonians to the nonprofit boards that need them. In the third year of the program, we recruited and trained 103 prospective board members in the responsibilities of nonprofit board service, and then matched them with 43 organizations who reported needing their unique skills and expertise. Read more about the program and this year’s participants.
We updated ILoveSanAntonio.org, our one-stop voting resource, for 4 elections.
2022 was a busy year for voters. Between March and November, we had a primary election, primary runoff, City bond election, and midterm election. For each of those, our team updated ILoveSanAntonio.org, SA2020’s online voting resource, in both English and Spanish. Throughout the year, ILoveSanAntonio.org hosted more than 5,500 users. Go ahead and bookmark that—San Antonio’s municipal election in May 2023 will be here before we know it.
We supported Every Texan in developing their 5-year strategic plan.
As part of our work driving progress toward San Antonio’s shared Community Vision we support organizations one-on-one in strengthening their impact. This year, we trained Every Texan’s staff and board in the foundations of advancing racial equity, facilitated the creation of their 5-year strategic plan, and developed a 15-month work plan that aligns their activities to bigger organizational goals. Read more about Every Texan and follow them on Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, or Twitter to stay informed about public policy in Texas.
We released the newest Nonprofit Partner Impact Report.
Our Nonprofit Partner Impact Report shares data from more than 100 Nonprofit Partners—including annual revenue; expenses; funding sources; the number of volunteers, interns, and employees; the demographics of their ED/CEO; and the effect of COVID-19 on their programs and operations. You can also find national data and research, as well as three calls to action to support the essential work of nonprofits. Whether you’re a nonprofit staffer yourself, a funder, or a community member, we think it’s worth a read.
We prioritized rest on the team with a 2-week summer holiday.
Every December, we’ve closed the office for two weeks to celebrate the holidays and take the time to rest and recharge before a very busy January. This summer, we instituted the same break in July to give our team an opportunity to close our laptops, travel, and rest. We visited new places, explored San Antonio, tried out new hobbies, saw loved ones, and, of course, rested. This intentional time off helped us better live out our organizational values when we returned to work. And now, after another busy and successful year, we’re off to rest again. Thanks for a great 2022, San Antonio!
