Willie T. Burroughs joined San Antonio ISD as the Chief Operations Officer in April 2017. He is accountable for child nutrition, transportation, procurement, real property and facilities (maintenance and construction). He received his B.S. in Industrial Engineering (1992) from Clemson University in Clemson, South Carolina and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant into the United States Army Signal Corp (1992). He later received an MBA (2001) from Clemson University.
Willie worked for 11 years in a number of leadership roles in manufacturing for Cooper Industries. He made the transition to the service industry where he was employed by Aramark as General Manager for maintenance operations with the Houston Independent School District (HISD). After five years of service with Aramark, Willie became an employee directly with the HISD where he served in numerous capacities to include, but not limited to: general manager of construction services (Bond), senior manager of contract administration, and senior manager of special projects. He served the HISD for nearly 11 years before joining the Dallas Independent School District (DISD) as executive director with responsibilities for maintenance, HVAC, grounds, environmental services, custodial, capital improvement, and energy management where he served for 3.5 years. Willie’s community involvement includes, but not limited to: Leadership San Antonio Class #44; celebrity dancer for the 2019 San Antonio Area African American Community Fund Renaissance With The Stars; Ambassador for SA2020; Board of Directors for ACE Mentor Program for Greater San Antonio; and member of the Psi Alpha Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. He believes that there should be equity and access for all San Antonians.
