Woodlawn Theatre Kicks Off 2016 Season with Rock of Ages

Woodlawn Theatre presents Rock of Ages, an insanely funny, rock and roll fairy tale of 80s classic rock and big dreams. Patrons can enjoy the live stage rocking musical through March 6th, every Friday and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m., for the matinee show. *Parental guidance is advised, contains adult humor.*

Rock of Ages is set in the tail end of the big, bad 1980s in Hollywood where the party has been raging hard. Aqua Net, Lycra, lace and liquor flow freely at one of the Sunset Strip’s last legendary venues. Amidst the madness, aspiring rock star (and resident toilet cleaner) Drew longs to take the stage as the next big thing (and longs for small-town girl Sherri, fresh off the bus from Kansas with stars in her eyes). But the rock and roll fairy tale is about to end when German developers sweep into town with plans to turn the fabled Strip into just another capitalist strip mall. Can Drew, Sherri and the gang save the strip–and themselves–before it’s too late? Only the music of hit bands Styx, Journey, Bon Jovi, REO Speedwagon, Pat Benatar and more hold the answer.

Rock of Ages

Directed by Christopher Rodriguez, Rock of Ages opened February 5th  at Woodlawn Theatre and immediately became all the rage, bringing the theatre to life with a live rock band on stage, the best local talent, a beautifully designed set, and the ultimate 80s rock mix-tape.

“Smokin’ hot band? Check. Appealing actors as the romantic leads and a swaggerific dude as the rock star in decline? Check. And — most important — is the whole thing so much fun that the audience doesn’t just stick around for the curtain call, they sing and dance along to “Don’t Stop Believin’”? Check…It’s a tremendously entertaining show.” – Deborah Martin, San Antonio Express-News

Not only is Rock of Ages fun and exciting, but it also provides an inspiring life lesson of fighting for what you believe in and pursuing your dreams. Although parental guidance is advised due to some adult content, most everyone will love this high-energy musical.

The Woodlawn Theatre, a non-profit, is devoted to providing quality entertainment and reacquainting the community with theatre, all while supporting local artists. Rock of Ages is yet another example of the great programming Woodlawn Theatre regularly brings to San Antonio.
