It’s a tough price to pay for someone who is terrified of flying, but going to Europe for the first time with my wonderful “just married” husband was worth it. Traveling the world is one of the things we hope we can keep doing in the future, but until the next trip, I’ll have to work on my “cool” in the aircraft so I can get through without hyperventilating.
Now, I’ve walked a lot of places in San Antonio during my 6-year tenure here, and Paris was no walk in the park, even though there are literally parks everywhere. The City of Lights was always bustling with activity, and as an art major, I was geeking out SO MUCH on all of the amazing pieces we got to experience; Venus de Milo, Mona Lisa, Van Gogh, The Thinker, Versailles, Notre Dame… my gosh it was incredible.
And don’t even get me started on the food. Crepes, cheese and bread, oh my!

So how did Dave and I not just roll back to Texas with all of the delicious food that we managed to cram into our bellies? We had a secret weapon; our feet. The first day we walked EVERYWHERE, but by the second day we couldn’t fit into our shoes comfortably, so we took the metro a few times (which is wickedly efficient). I gotta say though, it felt really good to walk so much even though my feet were throbbing.
Now imagine coming back to Texas, where if you drive for a full day straight you’re still in the same state. It’s kind of a weird experience.
