Meet Kiran, our Director of Community Impact!

The SA2020 Team is growing! Meet Kiran, our new Director of Community Impact. Kiran will support community stakeholders in aligning towards the SA2020 Vision and help ensure we’re collectively making the greatest possible impact. Read on to see why she’s as excited as we are about growing the team, what she considers super powers, and more.

What are you most excited about in your new role?

I believe that no other city in the United States is actively aligning towards a shared community vision the way San Antonio is at this moment. I’m beyond excited to be a part of this movement, to continue working to advance equity in my hometown, and to continue getting to know leaders across our community who are making it all happen—together.

What do you do when you’re not working?

Walk all the green spaces in town; read, read, and read some more; do cartwheels in fun places, put flowers together; bake cakes/eat cake batter; travel or plan my next travel; play make-believe with my nieces… and did I already mention read?

What might I find if I Google you?

A lesson on how not to get lost in Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda. (Ed. note: Both our new team members have a knack for making adventurous mistakes—and sharing the story with TPR.)

What is the SA2020 Cause Area that speaks most to you and why?

Hands-down Education. Too nervous to leave San Antonio after high school (not to mention clueless about the college application process), St. Mary’s quickly became a second home and spring-board for me. I studied International Relations and went on to work in peace-building in South Asia and East Africa. As a first generation college graduate, St. Mary’s modeled for me how an institution can drive equitable outcomes and change people’s lives. Go Rattlers!

What is your favorite thing about San Antonio?

Breakfast tacos from the Original Donut and Taco Shop and David Robinson.

If you had a super power, what would it be?

I’d just become a Bollywood movie star or a back-up dancer for Beyoncé. These are super powers, right?

What’s on your bucket list?

Travel the world for a year: South America to Africa to Eastern Europe and Asia. This feels like a funny thing to say on my first day. I mean in 2021!

If you could visit any place in the world, where would it be and why?

Geneva. My best friend is there doing incredible peace-building work. I’m wildly proud of her and miss her super bad.

Favorite book(s)?

Malcolm X and everything Kurt Vonnegut ever wrote.
