More than nine years ago, thousands of San Antonians gathered to map out a Community Vision for the future. Together we prioritized what we wanted to see maintained or improved, and then we set real, measurable goals—for the year 2020. That would give us a decade to create change and transform our city. And, to make sure we could get there, SA2020—the original community visioning process—became SA2020, the nonprofit organization charged with driving progress toward that vision.
Now, in the blink of an eye, 2020 is here! But does that mean for SA2020 and San Antonio?
If it’s 2020, is this whole thing over?
Nope! For one thing, we won’t actually reach a decade until September 25th, 2020—ten years since the kickoff of the visioning process. For another, the data that SA2020 uses to track the progress toward the Community Vision is mostly one to two years behind, meaning we’re actually working with 2018 data (or earlier) in many cases. And for another, we also all know that we haven’t yet reached that bold Community Vision.
So, what happens now?
SA2020, the nonprofit, is using all of 2020 to reach back out to the San Antonio community and ask you to help us reaffirm and strengthen the Community Vision. Then, we’ll continue to report, activate, and align, because we still have collective work ahead of us.
Does that mean I get to participate?
Yes! We want to hear from many more San Antonians this time around and create a plan for the future that’s truly informed by this community. You’ll be able to participate via surveys, forums, meet ups, and more—stay tuned!
Where can I see San Antonio’s progress so far?
On January 22nd, we’ll release our 2019 Impact Report and launch our yearlong community engagement strategy. Join us at our annual Luncheon, or visit SA2020.org that day to see the report online.
