What do you do when you’ve planned a half marathon in a lovely Hill Country setting – and the skies open up and provide flooding rains? Start planning next year’s run! At least that’s what the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas did last October.
This year we are teaming up with the folks at the restored and reopened Specht’s Store – “World Famous Since 1890” — and asking “How far would you run in your Halloween costume to put a smile on the face of a grieving child?” This site – for many generations known for great Texas barbecue and live music – will serve as the start and finish line for the Brew-Ha Roundup, a 5K, 10K and Kids Mile on Saturday, October 29th. Runners – who are encouraged to run in costume – will enjoy the rural route through the outskirts of Bulverde. Bring the whole family out, come for the run and stay for the fun! Your fur-babies are welcomed, as long as they are on a leash. After the race there will be live music, Real Ale Beer (with proper ID) and delicious FOOD!
The Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas is the sole provider of on-going, youth-focused grief support for families in San Antonio and the South Texas area. Children and youth, ages 3-24, and their accompanying caregivers account for over 1,500 individuals who annually receive grief support services at the Center, in addition to 5,000 professionals who benefit from the Center’s community education and outreach efforts. Most services are provided free of charge. Programs at the Center are designed to help children and families process the psychological and emotional challenges of death and loss in an environment designed to be safe and nurturing for both children and their caregivers.
All Brew-Ha Roundup proceeds will go to the Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas to help children and young adults who are grieving the loss of a parent, sibling, or other significant loved one.
