How Trinity University College Advising Corps impacts San Antonio's shared Community Vision

Our program aligns closely with SA2020 Education goals. The Trinity University College Advising Corps is a college access program affiliated with College Advising Corps and the Advise TX program, a state wide initiative established through the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. This near-peer model for improving college access could well be likened to the “Teach for America” of advising, in that it recruits highly talented recent graduates from partner universities, intensively trains them as college advisers, and places them into high schools with a high proportion of minority students and low college-going rates. The program’s purpose is to provide one-on-one assistance to students in matching their career goals and academic abilities to the best postsecondary options to help them achieve their dreams. The Trinity College Advising Corps works with each adviser to set goals each year, primarily in the following areas: 1) to increase the number of ApplyTexas early applications; 2) increase the college enrollment rate on an average of 5 percentage points annually for program schools; and 3) to increase the number of students submitting a financial aid application.
