Emergency response time for the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) has decreased year-over-year since 2010, landing at 6.1 minutes in 2020. SAPD concludes that the 2020 response time was reduced due to COVID-19 and initial stay-at-home orders.
Police emergency response times—originally under "Community Safety" in the 2020 Community Vision—was one of the first indicators from the original visioning process in 2010 to meet its set target for 2020. This indicator shows a shift in processes from SAPD, thereby measuring police performance rather than changes in the community. As such, SA2020 recommends that this indicator continue to be tracked and reported by SAPD and the City, perhaps during the annual budget process and will be removed from the 2030 Community Vision starting in 2021.
