Mission

SA2020 drives progress toward a shared Community Vision for San Antonio through research, storytelling, and practice.

History

SA2020 began as a community visioning process in 2010 under then-Mayor Julián Castro. nearly 6,000 San Antonians from across the city shaped a shared vision for the community by the year 2020. They defined community results and prioritized community indicators by which to measure progress. After co-creating a sweeping vision, San Antonians knew that leaving the report on a shelf would be a disservice to the bold goals. SA2020 started as the shorthand for San Antonio’s shared Community Vision and became the name under which the nonprofit has operated since 2012.

In 2020, SA2020 led a yearlong community visioning process to reaffirm and strengthen the Community Vision for the next decade. Nearly 12,300 San Antonians reaffirmed the vision for the year 2030, prioritizing nine community results and 51 community indicators by which to measure progress. Following the release of the 2030 Community Vision, SA2020 continued its work driving progress toward the vision through research, storytelling, and practice. The organization held onto the original “SA2020” name to honor the original visioning process and the organization’s commitment to a clear vision defined by the community.

In January 2024, SA2020 announced its dissolution. You can read more about the decision in SA2020’s announcement blog and FAQs. SA2020.org and the archive of reports and stories will remain online through September 2024.
